The second of our eight day tours is also designed for people who will visit Turkey again, and so prefer to explore only a portion of the many wonderful sights available to them in their first visit, afterwards they may choose to fly straight home or enjoy a relaxing week lazing on a beach in one of our lovely coastal resorts. Our Wonders of Turkey tour focuses on the majestical city of Istanbul, the anatolian plateau and its most famous corner Cappadocia, listed by UNESCO as the 8th wonder of the natural world. All hotels used are selected from the very best available and may include listed heritage buildings. This tour is yet another generous taste of the delicacies that Turkey offers.
Day 01: ISTANBUL
Arrival in Istanbul. Transfer to the hotel where a welcome cocktail awaits, followed by dinner. (D)
Day 02: ISTANBUL
Our tour begins with a visit to the magnificent Topkapı Palace and the Blue Mosque, completed in 1616 and famous for its beautiful blue mosaics. Next the Byzantine Hippodrome and St Sophia Cathedral the greatest church of christendom in its time and still the 4th largest cathedral in the world. Enjoy the tranquility of the Byzantine Underground Cistern before returning to the hotel. (B,D)
Day 03: ANKARA
Departure for Ankara. Our City Sights Tour visits the Mausoleum of Atatürk, founder of modern Turkey, and the world famous Museum of Anatolian Civilizations where we discover the ancient history of Anatolia. (B,L,D)
Day 04: CAPPADOCIA
Departure for Cappadocia. We visit the Göreme Open Air Museum with its beautiful frescoes hidden in rock carved churches. Discover a traditional anatolian restaurant in the town of Ürgüp or join us for an evening of feasting, folk dancing and belly dancing in the belly of an underground cavern (optional). (B,L)
Day 05: CAPPADOCIA
Today our tour continues with the mysterious underground city at Derinkuyu, a spectacular panorama from the top of Uçhisar Citadel, and a visit to the ancient pottery and carpet town of Avanos. (B,L,D)
Day 06: PAMUKKALE
Departure to Pamukkale. Visit the "cotton castle" with its gleaming white travertine terraces of calcium rich minerals, enjoy an invigorating spa before exploring the ancient healing centre Hierapolis. (B,L,D)
Day 07: ANTALYA
Today we visit Aspendos, the site of the best preserved ancient roman theatre and then the ancient city of Perge. The evening is yours to enjoy, perhaps a harbourside fish restaurant. (B,L)
Day 08:
If returning, transfer to the airport for onward flight through Istanbul to HOME. Otherwise transfer to resort of your choice to commence beach holiday. (B)
